Clock Repair Info

Thank you for your inquiry about clock repair.  I have a pretty lengthy queue for clock repair; however, you’ve been added to the list!   Here’s a bit of information for you in the meantime, regarding various clock repairs and services. 

  • Grandfather clock service calls and repair:
    • For grandfather clocks/floor clocks, I start by scheduling a service call to the clock’s location.   On the service call, I can determine what is needed to get the clock functioning correctly again.  Sometimes, it may need oiling and/or an adjustment.  
    • Service calls start at $125, depending on your distance from Topeka.
    • Service calls are grouped by geographical area, usually on Wednesdays.  (It could be a few weeks before we are out your direction.)
    • On the service call, if I cannot get the clock running or working correctly, I’ll be able to assess the movement and see if it needs a more comprehensive cleaning and overhaul.  If that is the case, I could at that time bring the movement, weights, and pendulum back to my workbench and do a complete disassembly and cleaning.  The full overhaul starts at $650, and the estimate total would depend on the specific movement involved.  There is no obligation to commit to the overhaul that day, however. 
  • Mantel clocks and wall clocks:
    • Mantel and wall clocks can be received at my home for service/repair.   If your mantel or wall clock is not running correctly, most likely it needs oiling or servicing, or an overhaul of the movement.  I would be happy to put you on my list and be back in touch when I can take your clock in.  Depending on my current queue of mantel and wall clocks, this time period may be several weeks or even up to a few months. 
    • I’m in SW Topeka, and repair clocks part time out of my home.  If you live more than 30 minutes outside of Topeka, and there’s a time you will be in Topeka, let me know and maybe I can take your clock in then.  This does not necessarily move you up in the queue. 
  • Cuckoo clocks:
    • I do repair cuckoo clocks! If your cuckoo clock is not running correctly, most likely it needs oiling or servicing, or an overhaul of the movement.  I would be happy to put you on my list and be back in touch when I can take your clock in.  Depending on my current queue of clock repairs, this time period may be several weeks or even up to a few months. 
    • Sometimes, a better option than repair is to replace the cuckoo clock movement.  I will let you know if that is a good option.   
  • Quartz clocks, Electric clocks and others:
    • These clocks are considered on a case by case basis.  Clocks with plastic gears or complicated computer mainboards (for example, Seiko and Rhythm chiming clocks) are very difficult to repair, if at all.  Some quartz clocks have such unusual movements that we are unable to find replacements.   
  • Clocks I am unable to work on at this time:
    • Seiko and Rhythm moving clocks
    • Atmos Clocks (possibly in the future)
